Axe throwing is a fun and exciting activity that’s become increasingly popular in recent years. It involves throwing a small axe or hatchet at a wooden target, aiming to hit the bullseye or get as close to it as possible. It’s part sport, part game night, and it’s easier to pick up than most people expect — no experience necessary.
How Does Axe Throwing Work?
Every session at Bananas’ Axe Cabana starts with one of our axe coaches giving a full safety briefing and hands-on instruction. You’ll learn proper grip, stance, and throwing technique, plus tips on aiming and accuracy, before you ever pick up an axe on your own. Once you’re comfortable, you step up to the lane and start throwing at the target — at your own pace, with coaching support nearby whenever you want it.
More Than Just a Bullseye — The Games You Can Play
Standard target throwing is just the start. Our Orlando location runs more than 20 games on proprietary in-house software, including Cricket, 4 in a Row, Zombies, Tiki-Tac-Toe, Hangman, Laser Heist, High Noon, Safe Cracker, Baseball, Spin the Axe, War, Kong’s Pong (digital beer pong with axes), and even Throw At It! — where your own photo becomes the target.
New Rochelle offers its own lineup, including Line-up 4, Zombie Hunter, Duck Hunter, Merry Axe-mas, Bottle Axe, Tic-Tac-Toe, Word Whack, and Concentration.
Why Is Axe Throwing So Fun?
Part of it is the adrenaline — there’s something satisfying about a solid throw and a real “thunk” when the axe sticks. Part of it is the competition — trading turns with friends, keeping score, and talking trash between rounds never gets old. And part of it is that it’s genuinely social: it’s easy to pick up, so nobody’s left sitting out, and it naturally turns into a group activity whether you came with two people or twenty. Add in a full bar and a laid-back tiki atmosphere, and it stops feeling like “an activity” and starts feeling like a night out.
Is Axe Throwing Safe?
Yes — when done under proper supervision. Every session is run by trained staff who walk you through safety rules before you throw and stay on hand throughout your visit to make sure everyone follows them. It’s a controlled environment built specifically for beginners, not a free-for-all.
Who Can Throw?
Axe throwing is open to anyone 13 and older, at any skill level. It’s a great fit for groups, birthday parties, date nights, and corporate events — you don’t need any prior experience to have a good time.
